Keeping The Business In Tip Top Shape

Numbers are reflected on a surface, blurring the image.

There can be no doubt that the best way to keep a business running in the best shape is to have top leaders. Folk who know the business inside out and are committed to raising levels at every opportunity. The way to achieve this is to ensure you have the best leaders in place with motivation to improve their own performance ad thus raise that of everyone in their team. There are several factors involved in raising the level of the leadership, they are what we would call core competencies and are ideal starter points on which to build. Focusing on set habits, and there are a whole raft of them to choose from here – active listening; effective delegation; conflict resolution; clear communication and you can add emotional intelligence to that group.

Active listening means to really seek out and listen to their team’s ideas and consider them carefully before jumping in with their own suggestions. With effective delegation, there is a requirement for the natural leader to assign tasks and projects to others, there will always be someone else in the team who shows aptitude or a particular interest in that topic. This will free up effective time for the leader. Another big pointer is conflict resolution – the ability to recognise and address team disagreements early on is a real skill but one worth learning and practising. It will always raise morale and give the team confidence in the team leader’s ability. The subject of clear communication should be straight-forward but rarely is. To be able to articulate the task and goals to be achieved with the expectations outlined so there is no confusion amongst team members will be enormously helpful from the get-go. Finally in this section would be emotional intelligence which allows leaders to recognise and carefully manage their own feelings whilst being able to show empathy towards colleagues and other team members.
